JoeMobi gives WordPress users the opportunity to get a free PlayBook by allowing them to build an PlayBook 2.0 app in minutes!

Toronto, Ontario – February 7, 2012 – JoeMobi allows publishers using the WordPress platform to build their own customized mobile app in minutes. And now, if they upgrade to the paid version of JoeMobi and submit their app to App World by February 13, 2012, they’ll get a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ from RIM for free too!

With JoeMobi, publishers can build a customized app that their readers download to their Android and BlackBerry device and use to read and interact with the web site. The publisher simply downloads the plugin to their WordPress site, logs on to joemobi.com, and chooses the logo and background colors for the app. They’re done the setup in minutes.

“There are tens of millions of WordPress sites,” says Noel Webb, vice-president and chair of SpeakFeel Corporation, makers of JoeMobi. “Whether it’s a mother blogging about her kids or a complex financial services site, JoeMobi is the perfect tool for publishers to broaden their reach. Readers increasingly want to consume and interact with content on mobile devices and share it on social networks.”

Now publishers can turn their app into a revenue generator when they upgrade to the paid version of JoeMobi, called Extra Joe, which supports AdMob and other mobile advertising services. And if they upgrade soon and submit their app to App World, they’ll get a free PlayBook from RIM.

“Building a mobile app is way outside the abilities and resources of the average publisher,” says Harry Scanlan, Director of Mobile Technology and Partner, SpeakFeel. “But not with JoeMobi. And if you consider the PlayBook publishers are getting from RIM, they’re basically getting JoeMobi for free.”
The JoeMobi app gets publishers on their readers’ mobile devices as a true app, so readers are just one tap away from the publisher’s content. “That’s valuable real estate we’re offering to publishers,” says Kelly Brooks, President, SpeakFeel. “A true mobile app is something that until now was way beyond the financial resources of most publishers.”

JoeMobi has evolved quickly since it was launched in late 2011. A recent upgrade added push capability to the JoeMobi functionality on BlackBerry devices. Now publishers can maintain constant contact with readers reading their content on BlackBerry and Android™ devices. The app user interface was also redesigned for ease of use and better branding of the publisher’s site.

All Android and BlackBerry OS 7 devices are supported by JoeMobi. And the launch of an iPhone version of JoeMobi is imminent.

JoeMobi is yet another in a series of apps built by SpeakFeel over the past year – both for consumers and for corporate clients.

Guelph, Ontario – January 17, 2012 – JoeMobi, the customizable BlackBerry and Android app that delivers content from WordPress sites to mobile devices, is getting a major upgrade. The upgrade includes both customer-facing and back-end changes that bring a richer reading experience and more publishing options.

JoeMobi app users connect over 125,000 times to published content since launch in late 2011

With the upgrade, the JoeMobi plugin installed on a publisher’s WordPress site now pushes content out to the JoeMobi app branded with the publisher’s own look and feel. Push notifications appear on BlackBerry and Android apps, allowing publishers to maintain constant contact with readers. The new push functionality replaces the pull notification, saving battery life on the user’s phone.

“We redesigned the BlackBerry app user interface for ease of use and better branding of the publisher’s blog,” says Harry Scanlan, director of mobile technology and partner at SpeakFeel, makers of JoeMobi.

Category selection and a search tool for readers to comb through previously published articles have also been added to the BlackBerry device, bringing it in line with functionality that already existed on the Android app. Now, JoeMobi apps also grab thumbnails of images from blog posts. These and other changes to the BlackBerry and Android apps will entice blog readers to engage with a publisher’s content throughout the day, wherever they are.

“Our first step was to secure real estate on readers’ smartphones for our publishers with an app that reflects the branding on the publisher’s blog,” says Kelly Brooks, president of SpeakFeel. “Now we’re adding muscle to the back-end of the app to improve the customer-facing side and create an even richer reading experience.”

“Looking at the data from the last three months, we see that readers have accessed the JoeMobi-powered app on their smartphone a total of 125,000 times,” says Noel Webb, vice president and chairman of SpeakFeel. “That extent of reader engagement is more than we predicted and publishers are taking note. We will have tools to start helping publishers monetize this tool soon.”

All BlackBerry OS 7 devices are supported by JoeMobi. A new version of the app built specifically for the PlayBook 2.0 is in beta. Publishers who want to experiment with the PlayBook 2.0 beta can email beta@joemobi.com.

JoeMobi is yet another in a series of apps built by SpeakFeel over the past year – both for consumers and for corporate clients.

The world of mobile search can be confusing to businesses and website owners. Is mobile SEO any different than regular SEO? Is it something you have to worry about?

Yes, and no.

First, let’s look at how search works on mobile devices. When a user enters their query, such as “pizza”, the search engines display the results they deem most relevant, whether they be desktop or mobile-optimized websites. If the user has their GPS settings turned on, the search engines will also display results relevant based on proximity to the searcher. This may sound like what you see in search results on your desktop, but the formatting and number of organic and Places results differs on mobile.

So how do you make sure your mobile website is found in mobile search results?

Mobile SEO is Like Regular SEO

For the most part, mobile SEO isn’t too different from regular SEO fundamentals. Your site needs to have good information architecture, quality content based on keyword research, and relevant backlinks.

You’ve heard the devil is in the details, and that is the case with mobile SEO as well. There are some key differences you need to take into consideration.

Technical Differences

One of the most important measures to take is to make sure you’re not preventing Google’s mobile bots from accessing your site. They now have two – one for feature phones, and another for smartphones. Both Google-mobile bots identify themselves using appropriate user-agents (either feature phone or smartphone user-agents), so treat them as you would a human user with that user-agent. So if your site redirects mobile users to a different URL, or serves different stylesheets, do the same for Google-mobile.

If you’re not using responsive design and have a separate mobile site, you also need to make sure you have a mobile doctype set. That differs for feature phones, which should use a XHTML-MP doctype. For smartphones use either XHTML Basic, as Android recommends, or HTML5.

Contextual Differences

At the recent Interactive Local Media West conference, Google claimed that 95% of mobile searchers look for local information. Additionally, mobile searchers tend to use shorter queries when searching. That means that mobile searchers may be using entirely different keyword phrases than desktop users on your site. Make sure you’ve done your keyword research and incorporated those targeted terms into your site.

Those, of course, are very generalized recommendations. SpeakFeel can help you determine and undertake a specific mobile marketing and SEO strategy that suits your business needs.

Now bloggers on the WordPress platform can build a customized BlackBerry AND Android app in three easy steps

Guelph, Ontario – November 8, 2011 – Bloggers who have been using JoeMobi to create their very own customized BlackBerry app within minutes can now reach the even bigger audience of Android devices users too.

Since JoeMobi launched in September, WordPress blog readers have been using it to view 21,000 pages on their Blackberry phone or tablet devices. The benefit to WordPress bloggers is they can customize it so the app takes on the look and feel of their blog, all within a few minutes.

“JoeMobi allows bloggers to get prime real estate on their readers’ mobile devices,” says Kelly Brooks, president of SpeakFeel, the mobile marketing agency and product development firm that built the app. “We expect significant and rapid uptake with bloggers whose blogs appeal to the fast-growing audience of Android users.”

JoeMobi gives bloggers a customized app that readers download to their device and use to read and interact with the blog. The blogger simply downloads the free plugin to their WordPress site from the official WordPress plugin directory, logs on to joemobi.com, registers their site’s URL, and chooses the logo and background colors for the app.

New to the JoeMobi Android app is search functionality of keywords or phrases within the blog. In another important evolution, the JoeMobi Android app picks up the categories from the Wordpess blog and runs them as tabs across the top of the app.

As with the BlackBerry version of JoeMobi, Android users can also post responses and comments to blog posts directly from the app, including on WordPress blogs that use the Disqus comments platform.

“These changes make an even more authentic experience for readers viewing their favourite WordPress blog on their mobile device,” says Harry Scanlan, director of mobile technology and partner at SpeakFeel. “And opening up their blog to the massive Android market with their very own branded app could be a game-changer for WordPress bloggers.”

JoeMobi is in beta and available for free to build Android and BlackBerry apps. Soon, sites built on the open-source Drupal CMS will be able to use JoeMobi too.

“Not far off is functionality that will allow bloggers to turn their JoeMobi-powered app into a revenue stream,” says Noel Webb, vice president and chairman of SpeakFeel. “JoeMobi is earning coveted space on Android and BlackBerry devices. It won’t be long before we’re helping bloggers monetize this real estate.”

JoeMobi is yet another in a series of apps built by SpeakFeel over the past year – both for consumers and for corporate clients.

SpeakFeel produces enterprise-level mobile applications for Fortune 500 brands and the agencies that manage them. Their services include mobile application development for BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad, Android OS and Windows 7, mobile web, mobile analytics and all of aspects of mobile marketing. SpeakFeel works with corporate clients and national advertising agencies to develop mobile solutions. The company is also developing internal products for consumer distribution.
JoeMobi gives anyone with a WordPress blog a customized BlackBerry app in three easy steps!

Android users and sites built on the open-source Drupal CMS will soon be able to use JoeMobi too.

Toronto, Ontario – August 19, 2011 – The 54 million bloggers using WordPress as their CMS can now build their very own customized BlackBerry app within minutes using JoeMobi.

JoeMobi gives bloggers a customized BlackBerry app that their readers can download to their device and use to read and interact with their blog. The blogger simply downloads the free plugin to their WordPress site from the official WordPress plugin directory, logs on to joemobi.com, registers their site’s URL, and chooses the logo and background colours for the app.

“Having their very own, branded BlackBerry app was completely unattainable for the vast majority of bloggers before JoeMobi,” says Harry Scanlan, Director of Mobile Technology and partner at SpeakFeel, the mobile marketing agency and product development firm that built the app. “Now WordPress users can have their very own native app with control over the app’s look and feel.”

Web site owners can copy and paste the code to their site, making it simple for their readers to download the app to their BlackBerry device. JoeMobi also allows users to post responses and comments to blog posts directly from the app.

“Of the 284 million people who view WordPress blogs every month, there will be communities that are more likely to be BlackBerry users, such as sites that deal with finance, fantasy sports or corporate content” says Kelly Brooks, President of SpeakFeel. “This allows bloggers to get prime real estate on their readers’ smartphones.”

JoeMobi is in beta and available for free now to build BlackBerry apps. Soon, Android users and sites built on the open-source Drupal CMS will be able to use JoeMobi too.

“This is just the beginning for JoeMobi,” says Noel Webb, Vice President and Chairman of SpeakFeel. “There are more widgets planned, including ones that will support advertising so that bloggers can increase their revenue stream.”

JoeMobi is yet another in a series of products built by SpeakFeel over the past year – both for consumers and for corporate clients.

We are absolutely guilty of not publishing our achievements. Why? Well, I think it’s because we are too busy achieving. I am going to take this opportunity to brag a little. Our employees deserve the spotlight and SpeakFeel needs to “speak up”.

2011 has been an incredible year for us. SpeakFeel has had the opportunity to work with some outstanding agencies and brands. The relationships that we have forged are key. We have worked with some of the best and brightest in the world of digital marketing and mobile strategy. Here are 2 of our latest launches from Summer 2011.

ShopCatch (agency: Web2Mobile | client: TorStar Digital)

This application is the brainchild of various stakeholders at TorStar Digital. We all love deals. As a matter of fact, mobile discounts are driving a lot of mobile app usage in Canada. Why wouldn’t one of the premiere Canadian digital agencies leverage this trend?

We worked with the Mobile Deals team at TorStar to design the user interface and develop the iPhone and robust HTML 5.0 application. It is a deal-locator that delivers deal notifications right to your device, based on where you are and what your favourite malls and stores are. With WagJag as one of their entities, TorStar is great a developing products that deliver redeemable bargains.

SpeakFeel has really enjoyed working with the professionals at TorStar. A special shout out to Deb Hall, of Web2Mobile (a TorStar company) who connected us with the crew on King Street. Can’t wait to see what is in store (no pun ) for ShopCatch in 2011-2012.

You can check out the application here: shopcatch.com

You can read the official press release here: TorStar Press Release – ShopCatch

Avatar (agency: Grey Canada | client: Research in Motion)

When Grey Canada contacted us to build a BlackBerry app for a secret client that seemed to know a helluva lot about the inner workings of BBM 6.0, we had an inkling that it may have been for RIM itself. Well, turns out that was the case.

First off, we can’t say enough about working with the team at Grey Canada in Toronto. Professional, creative and a little bit of fun too! Secondly, how cool is it to collaborate with marketing teams at RIM to develop an addictive character creation app that surpasses any other avatar builder in BlackBerry App World? Leave it up to Harry Scanlan (our official BB FanBoy over here) to push boundaries using the challenging and sometimes finicky BlackBerry SDK to help deploy the Avatar app. The application is available for download in 8 countries and is getting some great reviews.

Check out Girls Edition here: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/44574

Check out Guys Edition here: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/44103

Fall 2011 is looking just as exciting for us as we continue to develop mobile applications and strategies for our agency partners and mobile-focused brands.

We are also on the verge of launching our third product, JoeMobi. This will be deployed in public beta this week!

Thanks for reading!

Kelly

At SpeakFeel we only hire those who can play hard and fast. Jeffrey Sambells is definitely not an exception to the rule.

So what do you get when you hire:

1) an author who has written books about Google Maps and Advanced Dom Scripting;

2) a graphically-brained web designer who has turned into one of the best iPhone and Android developers that the mobile industry has experienced;

3) and an all-around dedicated individual who brings fuel to the fire we know as SpeakFeel Corporation? Sambells takes that cake!

What can we say about Jeffrey? He is definitely a strategic hire to leverage the boundary pushing capabilities of the company. With the ability to visualize, manage and develop progressive mobile technology that includes geo-location, augmented reality, HTML 5.0 and beyond, Jeffrey is going to be a valuable senior team member. He is currently the co-champion of the P2P Mobile group for Communitech and he has also been a profile speaker at various events including Google I/O. His knowledge of Google maps is second-to-none and his passion for Apple products is almost overwhelming.

Jeffrey will be working as the Senior Manager of Mobile Development, next to our Director of Mobile Technology, Harry Scanlan. We can’t wait to see what these two geniuses can come up with. When asked about the hire, Scanlan, a Partner in the company, has responded, “We have brought Jeffrey inhouse because he possesses the skills, ambition and vision that can propel a successful company, like SpeakFeel, to the next level.”

Kelly Brooks, President of SpeakFeel, can’t say enough about this hire. “We know what Jeff is capable of and we cannot wait until he steps foot into the office at the end of this month. Jeffrey is dedicated and entrepreneurial. He understands the iOS platform like no other dev I have encountered. His knowledge of the Android OS also enables us to actively target US markets as the device grows in popularity there.”

Noel Webb, Vice-President and Partner also comments on the hire. “Jeffrey is an incredible talent. His attention to detail and mastery of craft puts him in the highest level of programmers. We’re ecstatic to have him on board not only as an expert programmer but a visionary who will be able to aid SpeakFeel’s growth into new sectors. Jeff’s vision, insight, entrepreneurship and skills are a fantastic asset to SpeakFeel and we are delighted to have him join our team.”

Jeffrey is equally excited about joining the SpeakFeel team. “SpeakFeel is one of the most progressive mobile companies I’ve worked with. They know their stuff and go above and beyond in everything they do. There’s so much opportunity in the exploding mobile industry, I can’t wait to help SpeakFeel drive some awesome innovation.”

Of course Jeffrey is on the Twitters and has a blog. Follow him at twitter.com/iamamused or find something interesting over on his blog at jeffreysambells.com.
